If you’ve been to our St. Louis Park store, chances are you’ve seen plenty Mindy’s work and maybe even met her. Mindy had graciously taken time out of her busy day to answer some questions for me for the blog and I’m so glad she did. I think you’ll love getting to know her a little more too. And her best junk find? I swoon, I hope she comes across some more for the store!
How long have you been with Mama’s Happy? I’ve been with Mama’s Happy consistently for almost one year.
How did you get involved with Mama’s Happy? I visited the store when it was in Mound, and loved it! And then a friend introduced me to Chalk Paint, and we asked Amanda if we could try a guest space in Indy. The pace there seemed a bit daunting, so when the SLP store opened, I decided to give it a go.
What do you do at Mama’s Happy? I am a vendor, as well as vendor liaison and merchandiser. I also have coordinated store window displays recently. I love everything!
What does your workspace at home look like right now? My two rooms…the laundry room & the garage…I try to contain most of my projects in one of these two spaces, but inevitably many projects seep into other parts of the house. The garage is a disaster. The laundry room looks pretty good right now…I just cleaned it!
What is the last thing you made or bought for your home? The last thing I made for my house…an antique old white dresser and mirror set for my daughter’s room. The last thing I bought for my house…a large galvanized metal “W” for my son Will’s room.
What is your favorite holiday? My favorite holiday would have to be Fourth of July. I love the warm sun!
What is your favorite Annie Sloan Chalk Paint color? My favorite AS Chalk Paint color right now is either Duck Egg Blue or Country Grey.
If you had a super power, what would it be? If I had a super power, it would be to slow down time…my days fly by and I never seem to fit everything in!
What project are you in the middle of? I’m in the middle of so many projects all of the time…finishing a dresser, adding chicken wire to a painted frame, sewing some MN pillows, and growing grass are just a few off the top of my head.
What is the last thing you ate? I just had some Veggie Straws with my kids.
If you were given an all-expense paid trip to anywhere in the US, where would you go? If I could go anywhere expense-free, I’d go somewhere warm with a beach and I’d also have antique shopping nearby.
What repurposed or vintage item can you not get enough of at the moment? I can never get enough old crates, bins, boxes, baskets, buckets…they are all so versatile and I love using them to add height variations to arrangements.
What is the one thing you cannot go without? I cannot go without coffee or my family and friends.
Have you brushed shoulders with anyone famous? The most famous person I can recall brushing shoulders with was Gwen Stefani…we watched her ride the Teacups at Disneyland this past November.
What was your best junk find? The best junk find…an old tapered shelving stand. It was in a barn, full of more crud
than I’ve ever seen. I scrubbed it down, lightly painted it Duck Egg Blue, and kept it!
Let’s talk snacks: salty or sweet? I like sweet (cake, cookies, pies) and salty (chips, popcorn, fries).
Besides Mama’s Happy, where do you shop most often? I shop often at local thrift stores and I love a good trip to Pottery Barn or Home Goods.
What is your favorite lunch or dinner spot? Too hard to pick just one…I LOVE eating out! Let’s just say sushi and Italian food anywhere! And Rojo Mexican Grill and Wayzata’s Cov.
What are you excited about right now? I’m excited about this full day ahead of me…I get to create and hunt for junk as I please! And then I get to be with my kids when they are home from school. It’s perfect!
What song is in your head lately? The song in my head…well, yesterday it was a tune from my oldest daughter’s piano recital. But usually it’s random humming.
What do you do when you aren’t working on stuff for Mama’s Happy? When I’m not working on Mama’s Happy, I’m thinking about it! Ha! And then I’m organizing and caring for the family, pets and house.
Thanks for sharing with us Mindy! Next time you see her, be sure to say hi!
